In 1979, after being in the antique business for nine years doing major antique shows in Pennsylvania and Ohio, Jerry and Mary Smith established Smith’s Antique and Auction Service. Over the years their children and families have taken positions in the business and to this date it is still a family owned and operated business with three generations of the family working the auctions. Smith’s Antique and Auction Service, the only full- time auction service in the Alle-Kiski Valley, specializes in Antiques, Coins, Collectibles, and Jewelry. We also conduct Appraisals, on- site Estate/Business Liquidations, and Real Estate Auctions. Featuring two auctioneers (Jerry Smith and his son Lee) and an extensive knowledge of merchandise value, we are able to sell a lot of items in a short period of time without sacrificing the quality and focus of our auctions. In June of 1999, Smith’s Antique and Auction Service established a website called “Smith’s Auction Plus”. The purpose of this site, which was created and is maintained by Smith’s Auction, is to provide our customers with more information than we can provide in newspapers and the flyers we mail out while reaching a larger audience of customers. The internet contains a vast source of resources and information, it only seemed natural that we joined in. Over the years, we have continued to look at ways to improve our website as well as the business. Our photo galleries feature pictures for a large majority of the items we have in our auctions and considerable effort is put into taking quality pictures so that our customers can have a reliable idea of what the items look like. We have also added an on-line bidding site for our customers who are unable to attend our auctions to enter absentee bids prior to the start of our auctions. We have redesigned our website a number of times over the years to make it more user friendly while ensuring that it is remains compatible with updating software for both computers and mobile devices. Auctions are no longer dirty backyard sales that takes days to unload, instead they are clean and professional auctions that only take hours. At our regular monthly auctions, we not only provide previews and carry the majority of the items for viewing but we also utilize a computer system to feature the items we are selling on a large hi-def television. Please note that not all estates are best liquidated by auction, but if they are, we will do it or suggest a better alternative.
